Tales From the shortbox,

Volume 1

Welcome to the Shortbox.

In the comic book world, a "shortbox" is more than just a storage container; it’s a vault of hidden treasures, individual universes, and self-contained mysteries waiting to be pulled from the dark.

Tales From The Shortbox, Vol. 1 is your official invitation into a brand-new world of speculative fiction. This collection of 13 gripping short stories is deliberately crafted not to be rushed or binged in a single sitting. Instead, it is an invitation to decompress—a sanctuary where you can quiet the relentless digital noise of the modern world, slow down, and turn the page at your own pace.

But do not mistake quiet reflection for safety.

Within these pages, you will discover a haunting truth: not all monsters live under the bed. From psychological tension to techno-noir shadows, these narratives pull back the veil on the unsettling entities, eerie decisions, and quiet dread that crawl into the spaces we think we know best.

Are you ready to flip through the long-hidden corners of the shortbox? Grab your copy, dim the lights, disconnect from the noise, and step inside.

Reviews From Amazon

This book is not a cozy beach read. It is thirteen unsettling and thought provoking short stories that dive into the shadows in a way reminiscent of Hitchcock and The Twilight Zone. Shortbox likely won’t have you keeping the lights on to sleep, but some of the strangeness may creep into your dreams. Each story stands alone - perfect for that 15 minutes of free time each day when your mind needs to escape. An added bonus: no steamy romance and very limited profanity. This makes it a great option for introducing younger generations to the genre of suspense.

The stories are brief but gripping. Norton’s writing style is descriptive without being over embellished. This was a genuinely enjoyable read. Norton strikes a difficult balance in his writing style. The descriptions are vivid enough to pull you into the scene, but never so heavy-handed that they slow the story down. There’s a clear sense of place and action, but the writing never feels overworked or indulgent.

This book and audio offer a completely immersive experience. You not only get to hear the stories brought to life in the author's own words, but the writing also creates an atmospheric mood while engaging readers with a tightly constructed narrative and sensory details. It was a delightful way to spend a Sunday afternoon! I highly recommend the book and suggest checking out the episodes on the author's YouTube page. These stories are like a favorite Twilight Zone episode you can return to again and again.
